Exploring the History Surrounding Somerset, NJ

What is now the site of Marconi Park, the New Brunswick Marconi Station was positioned at Easton Avenue and JFK Boulevard. This was just a few minutes away from the border of New Brunswick. The station was initially a radio transmitter facility that got constructed in 1913, where it was operated via the American Marconi Wireless Corporation. In 1917, the United States Navy confiscated the facility after a partial failure of the transatlantic telegraph cables.

In 1918, the Fourteen Points speech by President Woodrow Wilson was transmitted at this same site. Once the war wrapped up, the ownership of the station, along with the other US assets of Marconi, got transferred to RCA from the Navy. Antenna masts were removed in 1952 to make room for a small strip mall that held a K-Mart store.
